The
broadcasting sector is gradually being opened to competition. The historic
broadcaster TDF once a monopoly, is competing with other broadcasters:

to
broadcast programs for private channels of analogue terrestrial television
since the adoption of the Law of 30 September 1986
·
to
broadcast programs for public channels of analogue terrestrial television since
July 25, 2003
·
to
broadcast programs of all TNT channels since its launch in March 2005
Some
définitions :
Multiplex: entity asked to conclude contracts
of broadcasting for the channels of the TNT
Diffuser: entity asked by the multiplexes to
assure the technical service of broadcasting of the programs
Administrator
of infrastructures of broadcasting: entity owner of the site or administrator of
the infrastructures which belong to third parties (“collectivités
territoriales” for example)
Downstream
wholesale market / upstream wholesale market:
To be able
to propose programs to the televiewers, the TNT channels lean indirectly on two
big wholesale markets:

wholesale market on which the multiplexes buy to a diffuser a service of
broadcasting

Upstream
wholesale market on which diffusers buy the access to the infrastructures of a
third party to settle their own equipments
