Blog objectives

Hello everyone, I hope you understood why we have chosen to make this comparison between TF1 and M6. Now, let’s talk about the different objectives of our blog.

Our main goal is to compare and contrast these two channels in order to help our readers to understand the main differences and similarities that exist between M6 and TF1 brand strategies.

To reach our objectives, we will start by analysing and defining the French TV market and we are going to study the characteristics of the product/service (TV channels) among this market. Then, we will focus our research on TF1 and M6 by analyzing the specific targeting and positioning strategies adopted by these two brands. Afterwards, we will go deeper by studying the different types of relationships that these channels have with their respective customers. We will also try to understand how they are creating brand awareness and improving brand image.

Through this comparison between TF1 and M6, our objective is also to cover the main notions seen in our Strategic Brand Management course. Finally, we will try to illustrate our blog with as much examples and visuals as possible....

See you soon...

Hello everyone!

We hope that you will enjoy to read our articles concerning the 2 main brands of the French TV market: TF1 and M6!

“WE” represents the authors of that blog! We are 4 in total, 3 boys 1 girl, all in the same program (International Marketing and Business Development) in SKEMA BUSINESS SCHOOL in Paris.

As the 3 boys are real gentlemen let’s start with the only girl: Manon Baud. She did a DUT in Commercial Skills before she came at Skema. During the second year in our school she spent a semester in Ralleigh USA. After that she did an internship of one year in France at Pathé, a French film distributor.

Let’s meet now Nicolas Rousseaux. He did a preaparatory class before he came at Skema. During the second year he spent a semester in China at Suzhou. Then he did six months internship at Blueapps a start-up that develops applications for Iphone. After that he did another six months internship at La Française des Jeux. And finally he came to London to do a last six months internship at RafflesMedia a web-marketing agency.

Then we have Pascal Caye who made a preparatory class too before he came to Skema. Then thanks to our school he spent one year in a foreign university in Finland. When he came back to France he did one year at Nielsen where he was in charge of marketing studies.

And finally Nathanael Bardon is also one of the authors. Before coming to Skema he did a BTS in international business. At Skema he did an internship at Mandadoori Magazines for six months and then he spend one year in internship at Smartbox in the marketing service.

Here we are you finally know (almost) all about us!

Hello and welcome on our “TF1 vs M6” blog !

As marketing students, we cannot ignore the increasing role of media in our society. The media world can be considered as a real advertising platform for companies who want to promote their brands products.
However, we do not have to forget that TV channels like CNN or Al Jazeera, radio stations like NRJ or BCC and newspapers like Bild-Zeitung or El País are also real brands. These services have strong images and are advertising as well.
In the context of our Strategic Brand Management course at Skema Business School, we have to compare two different brands and their respective strategies. In term of market, we have chosen to analyse the French broadcasting scene. It is an environment who has faced different challenges for the past ten years. Indeed, the increasing number of free channels and the rising use of internet are making this market more and more competitive.
We will focus our analysis on TF1 and M6.  Those two channels can be considered as the leaders of the French private TV market. They are also two strong brands that have adopted different strategies... But we will not reveal you everything today ... see you soon to discover a first aspect of our brand comparison!
